There is no vacuum or pressure at the bottom of the piston. A vented BOV needs to remain shut in idle state to avoid leaking. To make that possible, there is a stainless spring inside the upper BOV housing that holds the piston closed.

I've just joined the forum so apologies if this is posted in the wrong section. I was wondering if anyone has a diagram/information of the vacuum pipe system on a mk2 golf gti 8v (pb engine I think???). I'm having some issues with it running lumpy and would like to replace the hoses.

I would recommend getting silicon vac line, I bought the braided rubber stuff from vw heritage only to have it split repeatedly after a few months.

yeah if you want braided hose like oem buy it from VW, its expensive but it wont split! silicone way cheaper and the black stuff looks almost oem.

Im puting a 1.8DX engine into my caddy. It has the hydraulic head with the vacuum hose outlet at the rear. Does anyone have pics or can they help me out with where all the vacuum hoses connect please.
Post
The pipe from the back of the head between cyinders 3 and 4 (Air supply for the air shroud injectors) goes to the rubber boot attached to the throttle body.
Post
Hi all, have a 1.8gti k-jet engine built from parts that I am tring to use and there are hoses missing which are part of the vacuum circuit from inlet manifold to air box etc.
Post
all mk1 gti's had throttle on gearbox side of block. if you want to put it on the otherside (cambelt) ???????? then you'll be better off looking at a mk2 gti layout.
Post
Think your best using a mk1 inlet manifold and that inducts from n/s, otherwise your going to have to fit brackets etc for airbox and relocate washer bottle from O/S for no obvious benefit.

I have a different vacuum line configuration (on a 1.8DX FI Cabrio GTI 1985) which I know is incorrect, and wonder if it makes the car's performance suffer.
Post
The set up on my car seem to be a bit different… I have the vacuum going to the distrbutor and the vaccum for the mfa, the other one next to the mfa was snapped off when I bought the car, and when the engine was running it was sucking in air. I taped that up. It is just a little slow on tick over now.
Post
No problem with going back to the correct configuration. Manufacturer's spec is always the best option. However I have to get the dammed plug out of the throttle housing. It may require drilling.
Post
would dubdaves run differently due to the location of the dizzy advance vaccum ie not on the tb?

A few of my vacuum pipes are burst so I am going to replace them. What is the Id of a vacuum pipes on a gti? And would a 1 metre length be enough to replace them all?
Post
1m is plenty to replace them all, you should have enough left over to do it again unless they have been changed before and are a lot longer than the original length.

Thanks for the replies. I bought some 3.2mm stuff out of halfords and there was no way it would push on to the fittings it needed to. Should I just enlarge the hole at either end of the pipe so that it fits? The hole probably needs to be 5-6mm to fit on the fitting
Post
Not sure what you mean, have you got a picture of part you need to fix the hose to? The 3.5 stuff if fitted to the dissy, MPG guage, fuel enrichment etc.
Post
The first and second photos show the pipe (the one against my hand) the third picture show the fitting it needs to go on and the forth is a picture of the pipe hole size. Is this the same as yours? You can see from the forth photo that the hole is bigger than 3.5mm.
Post
That was the hose I was talking about, I'll try and find a link to some.

My car is a Y reg 83 gti hardtop. I'm positive I don't have that valve with the yellow pipe (not in that location anyway)
