Whilst this is one of our longest tutorials ever, the process actually not too difficult.

Does the intercooler in a turbo engine run hot?

As is the engine never runs hot. Lol don't do that! I should explain, the turbo is a compressor that forces extra air into the engine, this process causes the air to get hot and hot air is less dense than cold air so the intercooler is a hollow thing, a bit like a radiator except it has the compressed air going through it to cool it down a bit.

How do you install a new intercooler?

Slide your new intercooler into position, being vary careful not to dent the fins on the radiator. With the assistance of a friend, lift up both sides of the intercooler, ensuring the feet of the radiator slide into the intercooler. Gently clip the top of the intercooler into the radiator. It will now be secured in place.

Is overfilling the intercooler with oil bad?

Filling with oil is not good, not an intercooler problem it's a turbo or other problem. A handful or dribble of oil is normal since oil will settle in low spots, more than half a cup is when I would get worried. Too much oil = usually bad turbo and possible engine runaway.

As we mentioned before, hot compressed air isn't great for combustion. That's where an intercooler comes in. The intercooler aids this process by cooling the air down before it enters the engine and combustion chamber. Depending on what kind of intercooler it is, the cooling process may be a little different.

Poster Boy – Performance Intercooler R&D, Part 4 – Dyno Testing

When you’re the face of the modified Euro scene, the ideas of tunes, and maps and cranking up the boost buzz around you. However, an increase in boost isn’t complete without an effective method to keep the charged air cool.

Poster Boy – Performance Intercooler R&D, Part 3 – Production Sample

Big things come in small packages, so the saying goes. I would venture to guess that if you’re reading this then you already know that is the general concept behind the GTI and Golf R. The turbo four-cylinder coupled with a stiff suspension guarantees a stellar smiles-per-mile rating.

Poster Boy – Performance Intercooler R&D, Part 2 – Design Plans

As the temperature drops and the leaves begin to change, we start to enter prime boosting season. That’s correct, as the weather gets spookier, the efficiency of your charged air system improves. The cooler, denser outside air is much easier to cram into your GTI’s cylinders than the thick muggy summer air.

Probably something only a tuner can answer as doubtful anyone will have had multiple different IC on their car... Wagner seem to be well respected Sent from my VOG-L09 using Tapatalk
