Looks tricky. Have you the part number of the LHD drivers visor? I was thinking about doing this mod to my estate when it comes

tobys

Very interested in this too! I'm in UK so it's the passenger side for me that has the airbag labels all over it. Hate it, especially the side that shows when the visor is up!

roberth

Nah, but somewhere else on here it was mentioned that the dealers have a special tool for removing it and it takes about 30 seconds! I just haven't got around to asking them to do it!

roberth

Does anybody have a correct part number for the plain passenger side sun blind?

waldog

I asked the VW parts department when I was there on a different matter. I didn't expect much but they managed to get me what I assume is a European drivers side one. I just can't get the old one off using trim removal tools.

waldog

the part number for the LHD left side illuminated visor is 5G0-857-511-AJ. there are 3 colours and as mine is an R with black headlining the 3H8 covers the black colour. You will need 2 flat blade screwdrivers and a small allen key as shown.

waldog

2. The best start is to remove the light which works on the visor and this is very simple. Fist put your finger and thumb either side of the light and you'll notice you can wiggle it from side to side. On the passenger side you will find that the clip holding this light is on the left hand side.

waldog

3. now to get the old visor off. you will need to remove the two blanking clips either side (ie in front and behind the rotate stem). use a thin flat blade screwdriver from the side and one side will unclip and then do the other.

waldog

4. now to swap and put back. So swap the visor out for the new one, not forgetting to put the plastic gasket back over the new visors wires before connecting (see pic). if you test it now it won't work as it needs to be touching the car to earth. I found this out and it took me about 30 mins of testing 🤣 .

waldog

I hope that this helps everyone who is thinking of this swap. I won't post before and afters as you'll know what it looks like from you drivers side, but I think it looks fab. Another resource I came across which helped, is linked below.
