Why is a golf ball flat?

A flat golf ball would be more affected by the air compared to a ball having dimples. The dimples decrease the area on a golf ball for air to create drag. When the ball is hit in the air, the air molecules bounce off the dimples, and so the ball can travel far and straighter.

The four-piece golf balls give more distance and feel on shots. The outer layer is thin and almost always made of urethane. The inner layer made of rubber helps to produce that explosive distance. When you hit with drivers, you will get to know how it feels. Dimple counts are also more in these balls.

Why are premium balls better than urethane balls?

Premium balls are superior and have significant performance benefits. Because of their Urethane covers, they produce more distance and spin. Less expensive Surlyn Covers can provide durability, but when you are looking to take your game to the next level, you should prefer premium balls.

Why is golf played in the summer?

Golf is best when it is played in the summer or in warmer conditions. This is because winter affects both your visibility and the performance of the balls. For every 10 degrees decrement of temperature, Golf balls lose quite some distance. And the speed is also affected.

I score around 90 right now (17 years old) and I'm just curious to how much the golf ball actually matters. First off, I have been loyal to Nike for years and they even sent me a free pair of Limited Edition British Open Lunar Control shoes last summer, so I will only play Nike balls.

I know they had a live q and a session with the guy who helped put together the Golf Digest Hot list balls review. someone asked him when does a ball matter to a golfer and he said if you still lose 3 or more balls per round then his suggestion was to put the money spent on a premium ball into lessons instead.

the only way to find out is by trying a higher spin ball if you're currently having problems stopping shots on the greens, and your balls are running through greens, then a higher spin ball may help that's the main issue.... you can play good golf, and score low while using cheap balls, it's personal preference and if you know the characteristics of the balls you're using you'll be fine, that being said though..

Good discussion, valid points all around. I generally score in the high 70's. I prefer to play very good urethane balls, but I can score fine with an e6 or titleist Velocity, especially if the conditions are soft. If the greens are firm, a premium ball is more important. To the op: find a deal on a good urethane ball and give it a try.

Since you mention that you don't lose too many balls, I would reccomend that you play at a course you are used too and buy a sleeve of Nike Premium Balls... see how you score and game compares to using the 2 piece balls you currently use...

One of the biggest mistakes I see serious players make..........is constantly switching brands, even if they are premium balls. Pick the type of ball that's best for your game whether it's a distance ball or a top line premium ball..............and stick with it.
