What is the difference between a slice and a hook in golf?

Slices and Hooks are both golf shots that curve too much sideways. The difference when comparing a slice vs a hook is the direction that the shot curves. For a right-handed golfer, a slice curves too much to the right. A hook curves too much to the left.

What is a pull hook in golf?

Like a push slice, a pull hook is one of the worst shots in golf. A pull hook both starts left curves further to the left. Slices and Hooks are both golf shots that curve too much sideways. The difference when comparing a slice vs a hook is the direction that the shot curves.

What causes a hook on a golf shot?

The cause of a hooked golf shot is the clubface being closed (aimed left) of your swing path. An overly inside-to-outside swing can make a hook worse. A shot that moves straight to the left is a pull rather than a hook. Like a push slice, a pull hook is one of the worst shots in golf. A pull hook both starts left curves further to the left.

How to know if you're cupping your wrist?

To determine if you’re cupping, use the logo of your golf glove for a reference point.

What is the most common ball flight for amateur golfers?

The most common ball flight for amateur golfers is typically the golf slice. The out to in swing path move is very normal and you shouldn’t feel bad if this is your usual miss. One way to try and lessen the common golf slice miss is to try to work your swing path more towards the in to out movement.

What is the best position to hook a golf ball?

Upper Body Position. If you tend to hook the golf ball, you might be tilting your upper body too far away from the target at setup. While a little tilt in this direction is a good thing and can even help you hit a nice, high draw, too much tilt is a recipe for disaster.

What is the importance of swing path?

The Importance of Swing Path. The direction in which the ball moves while in its ball flight is directly correlated to your swing path. An in to out swing path will lead to a golf draw, while an out to in club path will lead to a golf slice. The most common ball flight for amateur golfers is typically the golf slice.

What is the difference between a right and left hook shot?

If you are a right-handed golfer, a hook shot starts to the right of the target then veers toward the left mid-flight. When you hook the golf ball, it lands well to the left of the target. If you are left-handed, reverse that. A hook starts to the left of the target and curves drastically towards the right.

How to tell if you're cupping a golf ball?

To determine if you’re cupping, use the logo of your golf glove for a reference point. If the logo points toward the sky on the takeaway, your club face is open. You are going to slice the golf ball. If the logo points too far downward at the top of your backswing, once again, you’ve opened the club face.

Why does the golf ball start out to the right of the target?

For a right handed golfer, the ball starts out to the right of the target because the golf face is open and continues to move right due to the out to in club path. The pull slice has the out to in club path but differs from the push slice because it has a shut face rather than an open one.

What is a Slice in Golf?

A "Slice" is a golf shot shape where the ball curves sharply to the right for a right-handed golfer (or curves to the left for a left-handed golfer).

What is a Hook in Golf?

A "Hook" is a golf shot shape where the ball curves sharply to the left for a right-handed golfer (or curves to the right for a left-handed golfer).

While a slice or hook can be caused by problems in your swing, fixing your grip, ball position, setup, and takeaway is often the solution to these problems or at least alleviates them significantly.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! ... from your Mod Team

2020 will most likely go down in history as a very special year due to the pandemic. Nevertheless, we hope you could enjoy r/GolfClash on a regular basis to get some level of distraction.

The most valuable Golf Clash skill I've learnt in 2020 is..

So, what's the one piece of advice you've learnt this year and could pass on to others to help them improve their game?

The current 9 hole minis should become the standard tournament and the current regular tournaments should become once every 3 month majors

With how busy people are nowadays, I really think they should have the current mini tournament be something that replaces the current regular tournament in terms of frequency. 18 holes minimum (27 holes max) of minis is much more manageable than 45 holes minimum (63 holes max) of regular tourneys.

Can PD offer any outlook what's to come by the end of 2021?

So I dare to ask PD if they could offer the community any outlook, sneak peaks, teasers etc. what's in the pipeline for the coming months. The tier system is in full force, the community adapted to the changing winds, we are getting "blessed" with the constant release of high stat balls.... I bet you guessed it already, there is a BUT coming! 😉
