The driving setting 'Race Mode' certainly puts the DSG into 'S' mode but it does other things too, like sharpening the steering and throttle response and increasing the soundaktor volume.

That only put the box into sport mode not the engine. You need to switch the mode to get the engine into sport. For example, I was in Eco earlier but wanted to overtake so put it into sport, the pedal response, steering etc is all still in Eco, but the gearbox is in sport.

Also made it obvious he doesn't have a R.....if you put it in race, the box automatically goes into sport.

I've got a 7R DSG.

Having just the box in sport will not do everything. You can have it set to Eco, normal etc and be in D, pull back the stick and you change just the gearbox nothing else. Steering, throttle, Bend lights, A/C and suspension will still be in the original mode.

You can have the gearbox in D in race mode. Just pull the stick back. Switching between D and S in any mode doesn't change throttle response.
