Laser the total distance. If you hit the green, walk off the pitch mark to the hole and subtract. Get a sampling, note wind conditions or elevation and adjust. It may vary by your local conditions. I imagine carry vs total is more important to some people depending if the play very wet or dry conditions and if they are a low/high ball hitters.
