Hope someone can advise!!? I've just bought a 03 Golf 1.8t and when I start it from cold it makes a strange noise which doesn't sound nice! It doesn't always do this but I'm thinking it might get worse or do damage...... trouble is if I take it back to Vw it probably won't make the noise! also...

mates got a 1.8t beetle and it has an intermittant sticking starter motor that makes a horrible noise when starting car.

there is a bush inside the box where the starter sits, this needs lubricating, very common on vw's and nothing will break with it like this

Hey guys, I went back to Vw and they are going to replace the starter motor... so thats a new coolant reservoir and a new starter motor in 3 weeks of buying.what next.

Both my mk1 & mk4 20vt's make this noise (a grateing sound on start) - as far as i know its clutch dust getting in the starter motor (common on this engine although I may be wrong) and does not necessarily mean its on its way out. VW will change parts whether they need to be or not so my advice is get a trusted independant to check it.

Had the same on my Golf 6 tsi, on numerous occasions VW said its nothing to worry about. I told them to make sure it is noticed on the job cards, when something happen I will refer back to that. Sold the car on 67000km and no issues till then.

i had the a similar issue,press clutch in and a loud squeak sound was noticed.

My ford ranger 2.2 does that.. I suspect the release bearing, will wait and see what happens though.

Seems like it's a know issue with golf Tsi models. I have the same issue with my mk7 since day one. Now close to clocking 90k km. And Ive been told the same thing, 'it's normal'
