Feedback

I'm not sure an exact system is used at the flighted tourneys I play in. I think it's more like the committee just looks at all of the scores that were turned in after Day 1 and tries to find gaps in the scoring numbers.

Isnt the point of flighting tournaments by handicap to put players of each skill level together so they can compete against players of their own talent? Why in the hell then would you play NET scores within your flight?

roll - gybe

Not so long ago there was a poster here saying that if you weren't the 7 'cap coming in one under and in the money, then you were a vanity capper! Is a member of your club ?!!? A 3 should dismantle a 7 gross and head to head. Sound like you belong in different flights to me.

knickerbocker

I feel your pain. I am playing in a handicapped match play event. I am a 5 handicap. I shot 74 and lost in first round to a 12 that shot 78. I won the second round because I got ahot putter and played the best round in 8 years - shot a 69 - a match that I only won 1 up against a 10.

rebby

This is the exact reason that I play very few events at my club as well. Everything is net based and, truth be told, I hate net golf.

Shipwreck

I remember back when I was stationed in San Diego, I was part of the Miramar Mens Club. There was always one or two people that would post just enough scores to keep their handicap high, then come and play the club championship (we had low gross and net scores) and completely blow the net scores out of the water.

stage1350

If prizes and things of monetary value are awarded to only gross and not net tournaments, the sandbaggers will go away. They aren't going to spend the time padding their caps just for a trophy.

I am hosting a 4 person scramble this weekend to raise some money for a local church. It is just a fun scramble. I am looking to see if any one can help me with the scoring at the end of the tournament. We will have 26 teams and would like to do an A and B flight.

David in FL

The only way I've ever seen a scramble flighted would be by total handicap of the individual teams. Flights are determined before the tournament though, not after... It's possible that a B flight team will post a better score than a A flight team. Welcome to the site! Stick around!

Murie51

Thank you for your response David. I appreciate it. So with this tournament we will not have handicaps. So should I then just split the field in half? Put 13 in A flight and 13 in B flight?

brianmcg

How we do our scramble is we do a blind draw of nine holes. The teams will be flighted by the score they have on those nine holes. Basicall you split the field in half based off those scores. Or you can just pick front side or back side, but make sure not to tell anyone how you will be picking.

dfreuter415

Scrambles are tough to handicap, due to the variables on the team. One team might have 4 single digit handicappers, while another team might be golfers who only play twice a year. I think that you have several good ideas posted here.

oscarfieby

I am going to do a golf tournament in 3 weeks using flighting system. A is 15 under and B is over 15 hdcp. Should I ask each player during registration what is their handicap is?
