Divisions and Flights are similar and can serve the same purpose. But what is the difference between the two?
Divisions
Divisions are used to, of course, divide your field of players to score a tournament or create pairings.
Teams
Like divisions and flights, teams are used for scoring tournaments and creating pairings.
Flights by Teams
Oftentimes, flighted teams need to be created. One popular scenario where flighted teams are used is for Member-Guest Invitationals where there are multiple flights, and within each flight, there are teams.
Enabling Player Flights
To enable player flights, go to Event/League > Event/League Profile > General Settings. Select the option to use multiple flights (as shown below).
Accessing Flights
If creating player flights to be used for the entire league or event, go to Golfers > Divisions/Flights/Teams > Manage Flighted Golfers.
Automatically Create Flights Using a Custom Field
The next option is to create flights by using a custom field . If you uploaded players via spreadsheet, and have a column that identifies what flight everyone is in (as shown below), you can use that column (custom field) to create the flights.
Create Flights Manually
The next option is to create flights manually. To do this, follow these instructions:
Refilling Flights
If your flights are created using auto-fill, oftentimes there may be a change and you need to re-flight. To re-fill the flights after changes, go back to Manage Flighted Golfers > Add New Flights/Refill Flights. Make sure the option to "Refill Existing Flights" is selected and finish the flight setup. The flights will then be refilled.
Manually Changing Flight Membership
After flights are created, you can manually change flight membership for specific players (if necessary). This is often needed when there are changes after the initial creation of the flights.
Re-sorting the Flight Order
Flights are listed in a certain order on the leaderboard and reports. You can view and change the sort order by following these instructions:

My city has a three-day tournament open to men and women. For men, you can choose to join the gross Championship flight if your handicap is low enough, chose to join the gross Senior's flight if your age is sufficient, or opt to join the handicap competition if you prefer.

I feel your pain. I am playing in a handicapped match play event. I am a 5 handicap. I shot 74 and lost in first round to a 12 that shot 78. I won the second round because I got ahot putter and played the best round in 8 years - shot a 69 - a match that I only won 1 up against a 10.

This is the exact reason that I play very few events at my club as well. Everything is net based and, truth be told, I hate net golf.

I remember back when I was stationed in San Diego, I was part of the Miramar Mens Club. There was always one or two people that would post just enough scores to keep their handicap high, then come and play the club championship (we had low gross and net scores) and completely blow the net scores out of the water.

I am hosting a 4 person scramble this weekend to raise some money for a local church. It is just a fun scramble. I am looking to see if any one can help me with the scoring at the end of the tournament. We will have 26 teams and would like to do an A and B flight.

The only way I've ever seen a scramble flighted would be by total handicap of the individual teams. Flights are determined before the tournament though, not after... It's possible that a B flight team will post a better score than a A flight team. Welcome to the site! Stick around! :beer:

How we do our scramble is we do a blind draw of nine holes. The teams will be flighted by the score they have on those nine holes. Basicall you split the field in half based off those scores. Or you can just pick front side or back side, but make sure not to tell anyone how you will be picking.

Scrambles are tough to handicap, due to the variables on the team. One team might have 4 single digit handicappers, while another team might be golfers who only play twice a year. I think that you have several good ideas posted here.
