My Iron set has real MCCs on them and I wanted to match in my wedges but at 26 Aussie bucks per grip I decided to buy some 5 dollar knock offs MCCs from the local pro

brew4eagle

The grip is so important. Buy high quality grips, which knock offs won't be.

Wooderson

My buddy bought some knockoff MCC's off eBay. They look almost indistinguishable, however they are noticeably undersized. First time I grabbed one of his clubs I knew they were fake. Just don't. Buy the real thing.

dlygrisse

I bought some MCC +4's off of fleabay and I am pretty sure they are fake. They had a funny smell when I opened the package, the cost about $5.50 a grip and while they look almost identical if you hold one next to a real one you will notice slight variations.

Hougz79

Yeah, I might have been duped this winter. I picked up some MCC Align from eBay. Seem alright, but I noticed the lower part is getting slick and hard earlier than normal. I'll keep them on until they get bad then replace them all. They did not have any different odor from normal MCC. They also had the wrappers on the ends.

cgasucks

In general, the smell of fake grips is a dead giveaway. You get what you pay for.

Rapidcat

I think it is wrong to buy fakes, you are fuelling a likely illegal at worst or at the very least unethical product.

mylesb21

I recently bought some Golf Pride MCC Plus 4 grips on eBay. Seller had a good rating, so I gave it a shot. When the grips finally arrived (late), it was obvious that they were fakes. I ordered another set from Carl’s, and it was even more obvious when putting them side by side.

Hougz79

I learned the hard way a couple winters ago not to buy grips on ebay..... I got duped with MCC Aligns. Lesson learned.

hoselpalooza

compare to the grips with the 360º view here: https://www.golfpride.com/grips/mccplus4/

spineshank

The ones on the left are the real ones. An easy way to tell is the fakes are always shorter in length.

quizzylish

Left are real and Right are fake!!! I just went through the same process on Etsy. The smell was the first obvious sign as someone pointed out. The quality on the logos were off and the small double-banding on the bottom didn't line up.

TiScape

TiScape

I had this happen with some CP2 wraps that I ordered from eBay. The blue color was different was the feel. Don't order grips from eBay anymore.

Rkrider99

Last year I got my clubs regripped at Dick's with Golf Pride grips. The last few months, the grips have been splitting and are generally in really bad shape. I do play almost everyday, but in previous years, the grips seemed to be much better constructed, or at least used better materials. Also, it could be the way Dicks's installed them.

David in FL

I don’t have any personal experience with knock-offs, but I play a LOT of golf, also in Florida, and have never had a problem like you mention with Golf Pride grips. I’ll generally get between 100-150 rounds out of a set. I’m guessing the installation was the issue...

tinker

No such thing as knock off grips, just companies that don’t get marketing exposure. Try Star grips. Feel great, last forever.

ChetlovesMer

I'll chime in as I am one of those weirdos who likes to regrip his clubs himself.

Rkrider99

Thanks to you all for the advice. I'll probably buy the PURE grips, or, I just got a coupon today for $10 off at Dick's, so I might buy the Golf Pride CP2 grips. Decisions, decisions..

David in FL

Try a set of PURE grips. Rubber, last forever, inexpensive, easy to install.

David in FL

Slick isn't the same as worn out. You just must sweat a bit more than others.

Golf Balls

The one on the left is the fake. The cover and core are made from lower-quality materials, the cover is thicker, and as you can see, uneven. The counterfeit golf ball flies like a knuckleball as a result.

Irons

A cross-section of this iron shows the one on the right side is the counterfeit model. The cavity isn’t hollowed-out, which means the ball won’t come off the face as hot.

Driver

The driver on the right is fake. How can you tell? Because the detail on the painting is off, and the hosel doesn’t include any adjustability.

Grips

Grips can be tough, but ultimately, you can differentiate the fakes from the real ones by the detail on the grips, the quality of the material and the smell. A good grip shouldn’t have a notable rubber smell.

Woods

The club on the right is the counterfeit, because as you can see, the detailing is lower quality and not up to code.

Balls

One of the most effective ways of telling a fake dozen from a real dozen? The hologram. Never, ever buy a dozen Pro V1s that doesn’t have one.
