So it's not the tee itself but the string. I can see that, but that would be a pretty weak argument during casual play. Can't see anyone using a tee with a string in any level of competition. There would be much jocularity.

Considering the original tees back in the day were small piles of sand, I don't see why a rubber practice tee should be illegal.

Used on Golf Channel. I use them at the range and on the course. Pretty good for the price.

Haven't used on a course yet, but at home I simply pushed a wooden tee through a rubber range tee so it would be anchored to the ground. My only thought would be that due to their being flexible might somehow influence the ball coming off the tee, or if hit low might offer undue resistance. At least not that easy to break one.
