How to Develop a Repeatable Swing

What are the keys to a better golf game? The simple answer to this question is to practice more. It’s easy to overlook the importance of practice, and most players neglect it for a number of reasons.

Make solid contact

I would like to suggest a drill to develop a repeatable swing and ways to find time to do it. If you are struggling with making solid contact with the ball, a great way to develop feel for solid contact is to make full swings with a six iron but controlling your range of motion so it only travels 75-100 yards.

Develop a Repeatable Golf Swing

One thing I would like to point out is that every golf book ever written, any golf lesson every given, is all predicated on one thing, that you come to me with a repeatable golf swing. If not then I have to work with you on getting a repeatable golf swing.

Swing the Golf Club Straight Down the Line

So what do we have to do, we have to go back and get them to where that swing is repeatable and hopefully get that club going straight down the line and straight down the target instead of coming across and going every which way. What I do is give people a drill to hopefully fix what their swing is doing. I try to get them in the four positions.

Golf Swing Homework

With my students I give them homework. Their homework is 20 swings a day in the backyard, any way they want to do it, they do not even have to be hitting a ball. But as long as they are swinging that golf club when they come back to me they are starting to give me things that I can work with.

First: To build a repeatable swing you need to pick a swing method/concept, and make it your own. This means not flitting from one instructors ideas to the next. Pick a set of ideas and work on those, to the exclusion of others, until you teach yourself to execute consistently.

It comes down to feel and repitition. I recently took 5 years off and my swing was still there when I came back; like riding a bike. I hit a ton of balls to ingrain that swing back in HS/college, though.

repeatable swings, or close to repeatable swings are relatively easy....Now repeatably good swings, that is something different.

At your handicap it's not about ability but from your description of your approach it's about learning. You are attempting experiential learning. (Google learning cycle on Wiki and look at Kolb and Honey & Mumford)

Maybe sematics....Depends on how you define repeatable. Very small differences in swings can produce big differences in ball flight.
