It can be done. I have used a backing material used in sewing. Should be able to find it anywhere they sell fabric (ie WalMart, Hobby Lobby, JoAnns Fabric) Be careful with the heat setting. No more than you have to have to activate the adhesive on the backing material. Too hot and you can melt the bag material.

I put a patriots patch on my titleist stand bag a few years ago. It adhered but after a little bit of handling it started to peel. I would reccomend sewing it on, if possible.

My wife embroiders and she just applied a patch to a gear bag and looks great. They sell the stuff at Michaels or Fabric stores....it is a iron on patch. Also, stitch witch would do it... if you iron anything on just put a thin towel down to prevent any shiny burn marks but it is a golf bag.

I have a button-snap swaged onto my towel and it snaps to the rain cover snaps on the bag. I've never been a fan of slit towels, or even loop towels, but I think I'm going to try one of them draped over my umbrella once I wear out the one I have snapped on is done.
