How to play skins?

First off... Skins should ALWAYS be played head-up... If you need strokes, pick a different game.#N#That said , If your best guy is a 5 and the rest of you are higher, let the strokes fall where they may for EVERY player, including the best.#N #Saying you're playing off his ball is not fair to him. He deserves the strokes just like the rest of you on the toughest of holes... THAT is why he has a handicap. The rest of you will stroke on a few other holes that due to his skill, evens things out better (easier holes).#N#Take 'em as they fall.#N#To answer your question:#N#PLR1 - 5 (only one with an index...sounds like he should be a 3)#N#PLR2 - 13#N#PLR3 - 13#N#PLR4 - 18#N#Everyone get their pops where they fall.

How good is the Stableford system?

Oppie... As HeadonaStick said, a Stableford System would be good in a number of ways. (and works well with different handicaps... let the stroke fall where they fall and net it out).#N#1) It keeps EVERYONE in the game playing their ball for a SCORE... that leads to posting scores and getting a handicap. (good for all)#N#2) It allows the group to play individually, or as teams... (if using teams, make it a team total... keeps all playing and not being in the pocket. also, it allows you guys to pre-assign teams or do a blind draw after the round... therefor EVERYONE has to play out.)#N#3) Add some "trash" on there... like three putts pays everyone a buck... keeps them focused. Greenies are not too fair to the guys without the skill of the best.#N#There are a lot of options, but it sounds like one of you have an index... all of you should and by having the right game, it will promote the game as it was designed.... score... and follow the rules.#N#With the "beginners", or those who don't see merit it, it forces their hand to stay in the game... and it affords the guy who has the index the ability to focus better on his game. Make it more "realistic"... having guys say, "go get 'em Partner" sucks... and is not golf.

How many skins are there in a week?

That's my preference as well. A handicap is designed to provide assistance on those holes where the less skilled player needs it most. If you were to use a full course handicap for all players, the less skilled players wouldn't be getting any help on the holes that they really need it.

The logistics (14 players) insure that everyone has 4-5 holes that you will get a huge advantage. 9-11 holes you get shafted and the balance is mostly fair to you. So you will have chance to win skins but you will have more holes that you don't. On every hole there are 4-6 guys basically playing for the skin .

I don't get into handicap skins. Only scratch. I really hate playing handicap anything. I had a match a few years ago where I stuck an iron for CTP and a tap in birdie. Another guy who was getting a stroke drains a long putt for birdie. Match over. Never had a chance. I know that's how handicaps work, but I still don't like it.
