Can a caddie remove the flagstick from a golf ball?

Here, Rule 13.2b (3) says you, or your caddie, can’t deliberately move or remove the flagstick to affect where that “ball in motion might come to rest”. The obvious example, and which is given in the Rule, is to stop it hitting the flagstick. If you do this, add the general penalty onto your score.

Should you hit the flagstick in the hole?

You all know you can make a stroke with the flagstick in the hole, whether your ball is on or off the green, and the ball in motion can hit the flagstick, there’s no penalty and you play it as it lies. But, you’ve got to make this decision before making the stroke.

I've started collecting flags from the more notable courses I've gotten the opportunity to play over the years. My initial plan was to frame them and cover the walls in my home office. The problem I've run in to which I didn't anticipate is that not all of the flags are the same size (ignorant assumption, I know).

A nice compound mitre saw (rent or own) can be your friend. You can make your own frames.

I am doing the same thing. The 12.00 plastic frame from Walmart looks cheap. Started to wait for the sale at Michaels and the 50% coupon.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! Will keep you posted on what I decide to do. Part of me wishes I would've decided to do this with scorecards instead of flags but I've purchased too many flags at this point to turn back now :)

I know where you are coming from. My wife got my St. Andrews flag framed for me a long time ago. So I tried to do it myself with other flags, but the Boss didn't approve of my work because it didn't look good.

Why is collecting mementos from golf courses so special?

It’s a perfect encapsulation of the passion that golf can elicit. Because golf courses are so different in look, layout, and location , every experience is unique. As such, collecting mementos from favorite golf courses or trips—and in rare instances all courses played—is a common bond among many golfers.

What is a golf pencil?

PENCILS. The golf pencil has been a long-time staple of the game and, for some, it’s the best “wood” they’ll use the entire round. Rather than a logo, the golf pencil handed out at the first tee or put on the steering wheel of the cart typically features simply the facility’s name.

Leaving it in

You all know you can make a stroke with the flagstick in the hole, whether your ball is on or off the green, and the ball in motion can hit the flagstick, there’s no penalty and you play it as it lies.

Taking it out

Some like it in, some like it out. This is what happens when you opt for the latter under Rule 13.2b. Again, you decide before you make the stroke and either have it taken out or you authorise someone to attend it.

The ball is resting against the flagstick

Well, is it holed or isn’t it? It depends, but Rule 13.2c is pretty clear on the matter. If your ball comes to rest against a flagstick that is left in the hole and “any part of the ball is in the hole below the surface of the putting green” then it is holed – even if the whole of the ball isn’t below that surface.
