In Northern Virginia, it is typically 9 hole stroke play for regular matches. Lowest four out of five or six are counted. For Invitationals, Districts, Regionals and States, it is 18 hole stroke play, again with the lowest four of five or six counted.

Indiana HS golf is played in the Spring. In varsity meets we play five guys and take the low four for the team score. Nine hole stroke play events on school nights and 18 hole stroke play invitationals on weekends. Players are allowed to play in 18 events before the post season tournament begins.

You keep score for your opponent in golf, including in high school play. Count the number of strokes your opponent uses to get the ball in the hole per round. A stroke is counted every time the opponent swings at the ball. Write the number of strokes on the card and then add them all together at the end of the game .
