Can you play miniature golf at Interbay Golf Center?

I’d been to Interbay Golf Center (2501 15th Ave. W.) several times to hit balls at the driving range, but never to play miniature golf. That all changed when I took my 10-year-old nephew out there the other day.

Where is Interbay Golf Center in Seattle?

In this photo captured by the Seattle Times, Interbay Golf Center sits between the neighborhoods of Queen Anne (left) and Magnolia (right) on the edge of the Puget Sound. When I moved across the country to take up residence in Seattle last month, one big question loomed: Where would I play golf?

Is there a waterfall at Interbay Golf Center?

There is a waterfall and a couple small ponds at Interbay Golf Center, but they don’t come into play. Instead of using real grass for the greens, Interbay uses turf on their miniature golf course. Since the course is outside, and there are kids constantly pounding on it, the holes aren’t always in the best of shape.

Why is there no mini golf in the northwest?

The weather in the Northwest just isn’t nice enough to support mini golf most of the year. There are miniature golf courses in Redmond, Newcastle and Tukwila (among others), but there’s only one miniature golf course that stands out in Seattle — Interbay Golf Center.

Get your putter out for summer

Summer’s in the house — woot woot! — and so are the long open hours at the golf course. If you’ve got early birds who are up at the crack of dawn (even when dawn is around 5 a.m.), here’s an idea:

Get your bearings

Upon arrival at Interbay, I left the kids waiting outside and went into the pro shop by myself to pay for our round. They’re taking payment by card only, no cash. Masks are optional inside for the fully vaccinated. There’s a whole rainbow of balls so you can pick out your favorite color, then select the right-sized putter.

All ages can play

One great thing about mini golf is that it’s fun for all ages, and there’s no prerequisite skill set. They’ve even got toddler-sized putters. The teen behind us worked on his grip and technique; the little kids in front of us had just as much fun throwing their balls into the hole instead of using their putters.
