Just curious. I always go to the range and get a large, because it's only a 2 dollar difference..but after hitting 100+ balls, I feel like my arms are going to fall off. It seems like way too many balls to hit in one session, and I'm always kind of just hacking away towards the end so I can finish and leave.

yenner

However many are in a large bucket usually. Depends on time really. If my arms hurt or I feel fatigued I just work on short game. Grab a 9 iron or pitching wedge, pick a spot, and try easy, controlled swings. Who says you have to crush every shot? You don't on the course. :)

Also, does anyone else actually stretch before and after? I mean legit stretching. Not just swinging a club back and forth or twisting your spine around. I have found it helps me tremendously. Just as with any athletic endeavor.

BigTazz53

Bout 70-100 gets me warmed up, using probably 1/2 of those between my driver and 6 iron, rest are spread over clubs I feel the itch to hit or need to work with.

I usually can hit around 100 balls with some concentration, beyond that I'm just going to be whacking them with no real thought and getting too tired to be doing anything useful. I will hit another 50 or so at times at the 50-70yd range as that really isn't too hard on the body.

Mrd19abhs

Depends on when im hitting the range if its before a round i normally hit 30-50 balls but if its an actual range session where im working on things then its normally 100-130 depending on time of day. In fl its to hot to hit more than 80-90 during the middle of the day but if its night time i go for around 130.

northgolf

Before a round I hit a small bucket - 50 balls. If I am at the range for practice, it is a large bucket (100 balls) and then the chipping and putting greens. If I am working on speed, it is stretches, a small bucket with focus on full range of motion without tension in an aggressive swing , and then weights/yoga. I do aerobic excercise (eliptical or bike) for 30 minutes three times a week and strength 2 to 3 times a week. Twenty years younger and I'd double the numbers (early 50s now). If I had the time and was seriously working on my game, practice would be 300-500 done 100 at a time interspersed with 1hr chipping and putting between 100s, 1hr aerobics, and 1hr yoga or weights.

Hathstauwk

Usually around 100-120 for me, depending upon the bucket sizes where I go to practice at the time (I toggle between 2 diff places). After stretching, I do 5-10 half swing for a drill I am working on, then I start with my SW and work through each club till my Driver, pausing to return to my SW every once in a while (including 30 yd, 50 yd, 75 yd pitches as well as full SW shots). Then off to the putting green and sometimes chipping depending on time I have..

100 balls range session, 40 minutes chipping and putting - range once a week 30 balls pre game, 20 minutes chipping and putting -before main comp game on saturday. If just having a practise round then no real warm up and loosen up.

pingB

I'm a huge believer in practice like you play. It's not how many balls you hit it's the quality of the practice.. I like to play 18 holes during a practice session. Basically I hit a different club each time. Sometimes I'll rehit if something specific happened, but even then I'll just go on to another club. So say your pretend hole 1 is a par 5.

If I had the time and was seriously working on my game, practice would be 300-500 done 100 at a time interspersed with 1hr chipping and putting between 100s, 1hr aerobics, and 1hr yoga or weights. Pretty much an 8 hour day.Top it off with walking 18 or 36.
