The clubs that are in trouble, and there are many of them, seem to be suffering through either a lack of members, or more commonly, a big infrastructure that has to be paid for, in terms of buildings, maintenance, and overhead. I think the key (these days) is to be a GOLF club, not a swim/tennis/dining, etc. club.
