Should I bend my wedges strong or weak?
When bending strong or weak, you should keep in mind what you are doing to the bounce angle. It is a one for one, so bending your wedges 1* strong will reduce the bounce by 1*. Also keep in mind your yardage gaps, so they don't exceed 10-15 yards. I would probably bend the to be weaker since that adds a degree of bounce.
How do you break up wedges into sections?
“I break wedges into sections based on the golfer—pitching wedge/gap wedge in one section, then sand wedge/lob wedge in the next,” says Jim McCleery of McGolf Custom Clubs in Ohio.

Does bending a wedge affect the bounce?
A question often asked is, “ If I want a 55 degree wedge, would I be better off to bend my a 54 degree wedge to 55 or should I bend my 56 to a 55?” As you now know bending the 54 to a 55 will increase the bounce by one degree and a 56 to a 55 would decrease the bounce.
Can you bend a cast wedge?
Cast club heads made of industrial steel are all on the so-called "unbendable list". This is a list of all clubheads that clubmakers are not allowed to bend. The risk that the club will break at the hosel is too high. Even forged clubheads made of the wrong steel cannot be bent.

What degree wedge is best for chipping? For most golfers, a gap wedge or a sand wedge with loft of between 52° and 56° will produce the most consistent outcome when chipping.
How far can you bend wedges?
You can bend a club more than 2 degrees. The 2-degree limit is only recommended when changing the lofts on irons due to the potential effect such bends will have on the sole angle of the club.

Can you bend a cast iron golf club?
There are – maybe a bit of a surprise – some cast iron heads that are VERY easy to bend, and some of them can be bent up to 4 degrees for loft and lie adjustments. Again – material dependent. Finally, there are unfortunately quite a number of OEM iron heads that are difficult if not impossible to bend.
Does 1 degree upright make a difference?
Yes it will make a difference, I play 2 degree upright and +1/2. If your hitting the ball left all the while (I am guessing your right handed) won't be to do with having the lye angle to flat.
Does upright lie promote a draw?
The upright lie also promotes a left tilting spin axis, which leads to what's generally described as draw spin. An upright lie angle basically gives you a head start, but depending on the severity of the slice conditions the golfer generates, it certainly won't guarantee a draw.

I'm looking to get the new SM4 Wedges this season. I would like the wedges to have 4 degree loft gaps starting off of my AP2 pitching wedge, but my PW is 47 degrees. Currently, my wedges are: 47, 52, 56, 60. I would like them to be: 47, 51, 55, 59.
AJF said
My experience was the PW at 47 and the 52 was too much gap. During fitting the pro suggested and we ended up dropping the AP2 PW and we went with a vokey 48 bent to 47 and we bent the 52 to 50. I also play a 54 and 58 so this gave me the ideal gaps.
AJF said
Horse for courses obviously as they say... However you mention that you tried the vokey 48 in 2008. Have you tried the new SM4. OMG, its a pure and with the shaft options you can't go wrong. Its was funny we are having this discussion. Rory mentioned on the website that he dropped the PW from the MB and went with the new Vokey. Hit'em well!
How many degrees can you bend an iron?
If the hosel design and manufacturing processes allow it, the lie of an iron can be bent 3-4 degrees or more with no compromise to the integrity of the head.
How to improve golf ball flight?
Using a club bending machine to change the angle on a golf club is among the fastest ways to improve a player’s ball flight. Whether it’s changing the lie to improve accuracy or changing loft to make sure that the player’s clubs are progressively consistent, angle bending is a major factor in club performance.
What are some of the facts about club adjustment?
Here are some of the facts, and fallacies, about club adjustment. 1. A manufacturer’s new set of clubs doesn’t guarantee accuracy. While golf club manufacturers certainly try to make a consistent product, there are often inconsistencies in the lofts and lies of the clubs and they may not be progressively consistent from one club to another .
Can metal wood be bent?
Even with limitations, many of today’s metal woods are indeed bendable, especially stainless-steel head s. Forged titanium models are bendable as well due to their softer titanium structure. And provided the hosel of the wood is long enough to allow the bending bar to fit over its length, metal woods can be bent to custom-fit a player. This applies to both face angle and lie.
Is a bending machine accurate?
All bending machines are not accurate in their readings. Machines with fixed measuring gauges will not be accurate when measuring clubs with offset, progressive offset, or face progression hosel positions. Machines that adjust for all hosel positions, such as Mitchell® Angle Machines are accurate regardless of the offset or hosel design ...

You screw with the bounce (obviously) and I've also heard it screws up the offset too. I have a 52 and 62 I want to take to 50 and 60 and the bounce change wont be a HUGE issue for me but I dont need to screw with offset (something I cant see or feel) and take reliability out of it.
jamo
2 degrees is fine. Just know that by strengthening your loft by 2 degrees you will lose 2 degrees of bounce. Also forged clubs (and any, really) will tend to bend back after a while. I would get it checked every couple of months, depending on how much you use that club.
Joeyvee
If you bend it .00001 degree you change the bounce by .00001 degree. There is no way possible with the current level of quantum physics we're at in our lives that you can bend a wedges loft and not affect bounce. The loft and bounce are fixed. Like an L.
max power
The club makers I have talked with said that you can bend a wedge 2* without effecting the bounce, anything more than that and it will. This is the reason most OEM's only suggest 2* bend, they can be bent more but then the bounce will change.
How does loft affect a wedge?
Adding loft increases bounce and removes offset, while decreasing loft decreases bounce and adds offset. Most PGA Tour players are generally ok with bending their wedges 1-to-2 degrees, but after that the look and performance of a wedge will start to become noticeably affected.
What does it mean to alter the loft of a wedge?
Altering the loft of a wedge, which involves bending it weaker or stronger, changes more than loft — it also changes the bounce angle on the wedge’s sole, as well as its amount of offset.
Do you max out a wedge?
Generally, the more full swings golfers make with their wedges, the tighter their yardage gaps should be. Other players will never “max out” a wedge, preferring to hit finesse shots and alter their trajectory. These types of golfers generally play wedges with wider yardage gaps, as their distances are more feel-based.
Do wedges have advantages?
I am here to say that, yes, certain wedges from certain manufacturers have advantages over others, both in performance and looks and feel. For that reason, golfers should spend some time determining what wedge is best for their game. If they don’t understand the process of wedge gapping, however, their next wedge purchase is unlikely ...

What is the most degrees that it is possible to bend a wedge to decrease lofts before it breaks, I was thinking of bending my 58 to a 62, is 2 or 3 degrees the norm or is it possible to bend up to 5 degrees or so.
Feedback
it isn't advisable to bend for loft by more than 2* or 3*, and i'm not comfortable with more than 2*. not only could you break the head outright by trying to bend it 4* or 5*, but even if you don't break it, you'll compromise its structural integrity and it will likely break later. not to mention that the bounce and offset will be all out of whack.

I researched this topic and what sk373 said is pretty much what I found to be true. I had my Vokey Oil Can 52* bent to 54* at Edwin Watts. The guy there told me if you bend it, it will most likely bend back over time. I've heard different opinions on this and I guess it's a matter on how it's done. By the way, Edwin Watts didn't charge me anything.

Cast clubs are much harder to bend (and can not be bent as much) vs. forged clubs.
Feedback
Forged and Cast has nothing to do with it. It's all about the type of metal used in the manufacturing process.

Agreed with *sigh*. For example, if I recall correctly, the Cleveland irons made of their CMM material and CG10, CG11 & CG12 wedges cannot be bent except by the manufacturer itself. So, the metal material of the wedge is an important consideration if you wish to alter your wedge lofts.

How many degrees should a wedge be?
Most fitters agree that a gap of 4-6 degrees per wedge is best, says John Ioris of The Complete Golfer in New York, a 100 Best Clubfitter: “The equal spacing between the wedges will make it easier for most golfers to control their distances and avoid fewer in between distances.”.
Do blade wedges have grooves?
While it is often the case that specialty blade wedges can have more precisely milled grooves and surface roughness designed to increase spin, the “full swing” rule is good guidance, says Nick Sherburne, founder of Club Champion, a 100 Best Clubfitter: “If it’s more of a full shot wedge, stick to more game improvement, and if it’s more of a half-shot or touch wedge, you don’t need game improvement. That being said every year the companies are creating game improvement wedges that have soles and spin like regular wedges, just more forgiving.”
Is a gap wedge better than a 3-hybrid?
Additionally, for average golfers more wedges might be more useful than more long clubs. A gap wedge might be more useful than 3-hybrid for a lot of golfers, for example. The pitching wedge should be the starting point for deciding how many wedges you should have and how they should be spaced apart, says Craig Zimmerman at perennial 100 Best ...
Why does my toe get into the ground when I shoot a wedge?
With less force being imparted on the shaft during a wedge shot, there’s not nearly as much shaft droop occurring , which causes the toe to get into the ground. Without the same force and shaft droop, it makes sense to at least consider the idea of going to a flatter lie angle, particularly in the lob wedge.
What happens if your golf club isn't flush with the turf?
If the sole of your club isn’t flush with the turf, there’s a pretty good chance you’re playing a set of misfit clubs — and if that’s the case, it really doesn’t matter how good a swing you put on the ball. You’re going to be constantly frustrated with the results as the ball finds the heel or toe with regularity.
What is the lie angle on a golf club?
For those who need a refresher, “lie angle” is the angle that’s created between the shaft and ground line when the club is in the playing position.
Can you stick to the same lie angle across the board?
While getting properly fit for a set of clubs can lead to more consistency and lower scores, there are times when you don’t always want to stick with the same lie angle across the board. Wedges.
