In the case of the Mk4 2.0, you'll need roughly one gallon of coolant along with one gallon of distilled water.

What kind of coolant do you put in a Volkswagen?

Some people also choose to flush their coolant system at the time of timing belt replacement as it makes the job more convenient. The only types of coolant you should put in your Volkswagen are either G11 or G12 approved anti-phosphate, anti-amine, anti-phosphorous coolant — whichever the owner’s manual calls for using.

Can I mix G12+ coolant specification with other coolant?

Example: If you have a Volkswagen model that still has the G12+ coolant specification in the cooling system then we recommend that you should still use the G12+ coolant specification to top off the system. Even though it is miscible to mix these coolant specifications it is possible to experience some unknown corrosive protection losses.

What happens if you put bad coolant in a VW?

Inferior coolant will react adversely with the coolant system in your VW. Additionally, poor quality coolant can eat away at metal, rubber, and plastic cooling system components. This will become obvious by bulging coolant lines and white calcified residue coming out from under the hose clamps.

How often should I change the coolant in my VW?

Like oil, coolant eventually breaks down and becomes weak — allowing it to become dirty. For maximum corrosion protection and prolonged coolant performance, flush the coolant in you VW every 40,000 - 50,000 miles or every 3 to 4 years, whichever comes first.

How many Litres of coolant does a VW Golf need?

The manual says the cooling system capacity is 6 litres and the ratio of antifreeze to water should be 50/50, which is 3 litres of antifreeze.

How many Litres of coolant do I need?

Most cooling systems will hold around 5 litres. DIY Car Service Parts sell engine coolant in 1-20 litre containers, so you can purchase the exact amount that you need. Follow these simple steps to replace your engine coolant.

How much coolant fluid do I need?

Answer provided by. Typically, a car can hold up to three gallons of coolant. If you need to top off your car's engine coolant, just follow these steps: Park your car on a flat surface and let it sit for an hour or two, or until the engine is cool.

What type of coolant does my Volkswagen Golf Mk4 2003 2.0 take?

Volkswagen uses a specific Audi/VW G13 or G12 approved antifreeze.

How much coolant Do I need to fill an empty radiator?

Slowly fill the radiator or coolant tank with fresh coolant until the coolant is 1 in. below the neck of the radiator or a few inches below the full mark on the coolant tank.

Can you put too much coolant in your car?

Most of the time, excess coolant is expelled from an overflow hose. You'll likely see a puddle of coolant beneath your car if this has happened. In worst case scenarios, overfilling your antifreeze tank can lead to electrical damage if overflow comes into contact with engine wiring.

Is it OK to add new coolant without draining the old?

You can add the coolant without flushing out the old. However, with time, the older coolant becomes acidic. This can cause corrosion, and afterward, can cause defects in the cooling system. Its recommended by most manufacturers that you replace the coolant after every 30,000 miles.

Should I add coolant to radiator or reservoir?

If your engine is cold, the coolant level should be up to the cold fill line. Loosen the reservoir cap just a little, then step back while the pressure releases. Then, remove the cap completely. If the coolant level is low, add the correct coolant to the reservoir (not the radiator itself).

Is coolant the same as antifreeze?

Engine coolant, also known as antifreeze, is mixed with water to keep the radiator from freezing in extreme cold and overheating in extreme heat. There are many different types of coolant, so it's important to know what variety is right for your car or truck.

Can I put regular coolant in my VW?

So what kind of antifreeze do you use in your VW? It is highly recommended that you don't use any kind other than the specific Audi/VW G13 or G12 approved antifreeze. Regular, store-bought antifreeze often has chemicals in it that can wear down gaskets and other parts in your system.

What color is VW G13 coolant?

purple/violet colourThe G13 has a purple/violet colour and has the same exceptional cooling and antifreeze performance as G12++. The main difference: it is manufactured using glycerin instead of glycol.

Can you add water to VW coolant?

1:282:26Don't overfill above the maximum line because the liquid in the tank expands. As it heats againMoreDon't overfill above the maximum line because the liquid in the tank expands. As it heats again never open the lid to your coolant reservoir. When the engine is hot.

Does antifreeze have rust protection?

The quality of an anti freeze is no longer just determined by the antifreeze effect (which automatically exists in an ethylene-glycol-based product), but by the rust protection. That is why automakers subject antifreeze to lengthy corrosion and cavitation tests.

Can you use store bought coolant on a VW?

Do NOT use regular store-bought coolant, which typically doesn 't correspond with the specifications of an VW cooling system. Inferior coolant has an adverse reaction within an VW cooling system. Poor quality coolant contaminates the system and eats away at metal, rubber, and plastic components.

Is antifreeze a good coolant?

The quality of an antifreeze is no longer just determined by the antifreeze effect (which automatically exists in an ethylene-glycol-based product), which is critical for the quality of a coolant, but also the rust protection. That is why automakers subject antifreeze to lengthy corrosion and cavitation tests.

Can you mix G13 with G12?

The newest VW G13 coolant antifreeze specification is backwards compatible with all coolant specs VW used previously. So, this means it can be mixed with the earlier G11, G12, G12 plus, G12 plus plus coolant specs. However, we do recommend topping off your coolant tank with the same type of coolant that is currently in your VW cooling system.

Hello, The requirement is 10 QTS. I use 10 and check it cause some times they hold 11 QTS. I hope this helps. If you have more questions reguarding this or other conserns please ask me. Please remember high ratings are very important to me. Thank You, Roy

On many engines with distributor less ignition systems and sequential fuel injection, a camshaft position sensor is used to keep the engine's control module informed about the relative position of the crankshaft.

Take a small 90 degree pick. Inspect the fitting closely. Use the pick to "roll" the retaining clip off the fitting. The line will simply pull once this is done. U can install the clip first on reinstallation (inspect them closely) and then simply push the line into the fitting. It will "click" into place.
