The manufacturers seen to agree that there is a performance loss after about five years. As stated above there is a significant loss due to temperature. I play in a Tuesday and Thursday league and Tuesday the temp fell to about 50 degrees down from our normal 80 degrees. We were all commenting on how short the ball flew.

Mostly cold weather will decrease ball distance. My daughters golf coach has her put the golf ball in a hand warmer between holes.

While I understand the theory behind the temperature / distance relationship, I personally have yet to experience it. I played yesterday in balmy Chi-Town, in temps around 40F and was hitting my numbers on the button, using the same Pro V1X as I do in the summer, as verified by the Bushnell. YMMV
