Seeing as I have never had a fitting and my driver is seemingly producing unreal spin rates, I decided to go to Golf Galaxy and go get fitted for a new driver shaft.

Nemicu

Interesting they had so many left handed demos in store. But then again, the rest of your story is equally far fetched.

David in FL

Interesting. I think a big key for any monitor work is developing a point of reference with a club you know, as you did with your own 8-iron.

TristanBlevins

Some food for thought: did he have you hit the same iron with two different shafts or did he have you hit your irons versus a new iron with a different shaft. If it's the latter, there is likely also a loft discrepancy contributing to the extra distance. Just a couple things to keep in mind while making your decision.

TristanBlevins

Interesting they had so many left handed demos in store. But then again, the rest of your story is equally far fetched.

TristanBlevins

Just a note here: It will be cheaper to reshaft your irons than buy new ones. You may prefer the new ones, but from a cost standpoint it is cheaper to reshaft them since you're only paying for the shaft instead of an entire club.

When I bought my irons the guy in shop suggested we should all change clubs every 3 years! To keep up with technology, and to make sure they're fitted to evolving swings! Which I guess there could be some truth in this for some people! but as a golf salesman, he would say this! As for clubs only lasting 3/4 years, then they must be selling some poor quality clubs!.

I want to preface this thread by saying that the guys in my golf galaxy are for the most part nice, semi knowledgeable people who I get along with.

Flop Shot Master

Thats a little higher than what i usually pay. I believe i pay around $21 to have a shaft pulled and another installed. No grip or anything

cvvorst

Wow. Never realized it cost $18 to do that. You can buy a giant thing of epoxy for half that. I literally stood there and watched them install it, took 45 seconds.

Brad Thor

I have worked on by own equipment since wooded drivers and no way would anyone charge less than $30 to remove and reinstall another shaft.

TheGeekGolfer

I'll so tired of the argument that it only took them x number of minutes to do it. Yeah, because they have done hundreds of them. So, you should pay LESS because they are better? How much time did it save you? You're covered if they break it. Sounds reasonable to me! [rant] This happened to me the other day. Fixed a lady's computer, remotely.

coreyl

Now thats expensive. $99 for a 1/2 hour, that's almost on that Lawyer time...she should have saved herself a little money and bought a new machine.

cvvorst

Part of the reason I asked was because I've had iron sets reshafted for under $100. It seems I've offended some of you by asking if the price was fair, which is odd considering that's what this forum is for... I'll stand by what I said. A job that takes under a minute shouldn't cost $18. Since it does, I'll be doing it myself in the future.
