Little Ned

I'm looking to get my dad something for an upcoming gift. He's taken lessons and his game has improved tenfold. I could either get him more lessons or I could get something else. I've read so much here about getting properly fitted clubs. But is it possible to get a fitting done on clubs you already own??

Little Ned

Great to here. Is it any different than being fitted for a new set of clubs?

Dizz

I'm gonna go against the grain here and say I wouldn't recommend doing it that way... but it totally depends on the expectations you have from fitting your existing clubs. Anything more than simple loft/lie change and you're gonna end up spending enough where you might as well just buy a new set truly custom fit.

Little Ned

Well let me ask this - how worthwhile is it to get the loft/lie adjusted? Or is there another piece of golf equipment you'd prefer?

Dizz

It's definitely worthwhile to get the lie angles checked and then correctly bent. However any fitter that's reputable will charge (at least) $50 for their time and then probably $30 on the low end to bend 8 clubs for example.

Little Ned

Hmmm ... Well is there anything you guys suggest? I'd like to get him something around $100

smigin

sheesh, I was just going to ask a very similar question and this is a bit worrying as my budget won't stretch to £400-£500 I'm in the UK and was wondering if anyone could recommend a fitter in the North/Midlands? any help would be appreciated I would like to keep my Mizuno MX300 as I love the feel but maybe a loft and lie check is just tinkering? I have been quoted £30/40 for this check and making any adjustments BUT not including shaft changes I would like to keep the XHOT 4W and 7W after having issues of hooking badly with hybrids and here a shaft change is the only likely outcome - again about £40 cost of checking not sure how they can make a recommendation though I have just been given a RAZR FIT 10.5* driver which is sending the ball at least 10-20 yards further than my previous G15 did though the flight is a lot lower.

JaNelson38

It depends on what you are looking for when you are talking about "true custom fitting".

gmetcalf18

Im not custom fit besides lie loft and length for each club by a local pro but he gives me suggestions on shafts he knows i tinker and i don't really go off launch monitor numbers i test on the course but my driver was $400, fw $350, hybrid $160,irons $650, wedges $650, putter $300.

bullrambler

I am talking about true custom fitting not a fitting from a big box store. I am talking custom fitting by an experianced club fitter who makes his living fitting golfers for clubs
