On my 3 wood and driver, my left hand regrips during the backswing to what feels like a more 'comfy' position and at impact the face is very closed.

I had a similar thing going on and my friend advised it was that my grip was not right at address. So I started back to basics by working on the grip and the regrip disappeared. In my case the starting grip was neutral and my regrip was going strong. So I am now slightly stronger in grip and no regrip.

Ouch! I feel your pain. I went through this for a while about 15 years ago. Got into the habit without even knowing it and it became part of the swing. Couldn't even feel myself do it. What I finally did to stop was have an assistant from the club watch me hit balls.

Been having the exact same problem. Previous poster is correct you can have a pro or someone watch you and call you out on it, that helps. I believe this also arises from taking the club back too far, shorten the backswing a bit to where you are not stretching and taking the club back too uncomfortably far.
Feedback
I thought I was the only one doing this. AFAIK, I use to do it before, but just with the driver. I know I do it when I want to put some extra umph on the swing. I can feel my left hand relax allot on the backswing, then as I start on the downswing, I start to tighten the grip again. I used to golf 5-6 days a week, over 5-6 years ago.

This one is beyond me. You're regripping the club in the backswing, yet you can't stop? Have you tried just choking the **** out of your club? If you can't stop the club from rotating in your hands doing that, I'll arm wrestle you for big money, cuz your hands are either made of olive oil, or you forgot to put a grip on your club.

I'm listening to what you are saying, the facts are my grip is neutral at setup. When I finish the swing and if it's a bad hook or pull hook I raise my club up and sure enough my left hand has rotated strong and the club face is closed. That's what I want an explanation on

Had the same issue with woods in the past. In my case, I knew I was re-gripping at the top (hands always wanting to move strong). When it's happening, there's no question. Never happened with my irons.
