Step 1: Evaluate your mess

To start, I emptied each of the pockets of my golf bag, and what I found is on display in that unsightly pile in the photo above. Ugh…So. Much. Stuff! I’m not proud of this, people! And so many golf balls! Why? Truly, there’s nothing in your golf bag that will tip the scales more prominently than golf balls. Individually, they’re light as air.

Step 2: Consolidate your necessities

Place everything into piles so you can get a clear picture of exactly how much you have of each item. This is also valuable because it will show you what you don’t need, like course yardage books and pin sheets from a tournament you played well over a year ago. And four granola bars! C’mon, Jess!

Step 3: Decide what to keep

Once you have your piles established, it’s time to purge. I cut out about half of the stuff I was carrying. Do I really need over 20 golf balls? I hope not! I’m going to stick with two sleeves. And all those gloves were old and in need of replacement. I just need two gloves: one to wear and one for backup, as well as a pair of rain gloves.

The side bottom pocket is useful for things like sunscreen and my trusty Rules book.

Step 5: Order your clubs

I like having a rhyme and reason to my club organization. Every club has its place, so it makes it obvious when one is missing. I like this idea. In fact I was thinking about building a minimalist bag as a travel and backup set. Unfortunately I found it difficult to find an individual iron for sale in the same specs here in the UK. Considering to buy a full set iron, take some (let's say 5,7,9) and sell the rest on eBay. Not sure though.

Just to keep it simple, I carry 2 clubs that go over 180+ yards, 3 clubs that go between 160 and 120, and 2 wedges for everything around 100 and less.

ppl4golf

IMHO, minimalistic setup should have some wonder clubs like a 4-wood and a 54° wedge which replaced 3+5 woods and anything from PW down. Your 3-Deep actually fits the bill well and would alao be my choice if I had one. My pick will be: Driver, 4-wood, 4,6,8, P, 54°, putter. 8 clubs there but relevant.

JustWedgit

When I go light... Driver. Carry 225 4 hybrid. Carry 170 6 iron. Carry 150 8 iron. Carry. 130 PW. Carry 110 58* SW. Carry 85 Putter Have nice consistent gaps between clubs and never worry about getting close to par 5's in two, I just advance the ball with the hybrid and usually have between 80-120 in. Of course it all depends on the tees you play.

Golf64

My new bag will consist of 3 wood, 4 hybrid, 5-pw, gw, 56*, putter. All I need and cheaper on the wallet.
