Getting Started

Before we dive deep into organizing all of your golf bag essentials, there are a few preliminary tasks you have to take care of.

How to Organize Your Golf Clubs

One of the first steps to whipping your golf bag into shape is to organize your golf clubs. After all, holding your clubs is the primary purpose of having a golf bag. If you don't want to waste valuable time sifting through your clubs to find your putter or woods — keeping them in the right order is the best way to go.

How to Organize Your Apparel

Almost all golf carriers will come with at least one apparel pocket. While it may be tempting to shove other items into your apparel pocket, try to avoid doing so at all costs. If you put snacks or liquids in this pocket, you'll end up with an unforgivable mess.

How to Organize Your Golf Balls

Most bags offer a specific section to store your balls. That said, you don't want to overload the number of balls you take with you. Having too many isn't necessary and will make it more difficult to organize the rest of your bag.

How to Organize Your Golf Accessories

Organizing your accessories is crucial if you want to have a clear mind while on the green. However, your strategy is limited to how many pockets your stand bag offers. Fortunately, most medium and large golf bags provide plenty of pockets to hold a reasonable amount of accessories.

How to Organize Your Valuables

If you have a newer stand bag, chances are there's a dedicated area to store your valuables. What's more, golf bag manufacturers tend to make these compartments out of durable ermine and velour. Also, they tend to make the valuables pocket waterproof to keep your phone and wallet nice and dry as you play.

How to Organize Your Consumables

Golf can be quite physically demanding, especially if you're walking the course. Naturally, you'll want to pack water and some snacks to keep your energy levels in check. As you can see from the information above, it's not wise to shove your snacks and liquids into any compartment that has additional space.

What is wrong with putter fittings?

Part of the problem with putter fittings is that they don’t involve straightforward number crunching like a driver fitting does. Also, the objective is not as obvious. With a driver, the one that goes straightest and longest is best.

What variables are important to putter fitting?

The amount of variables in putter fitting can feel overwhelming: head shape, toe hang, weight, length, lie, alignment aids, and grip, just to name a handful. Where should you start?

What is the most used club in golf?

At every level of golf, the putter is the most used club. Improving your putting is also the fastest, easiest way to knock strokes off your game.

Which club can unlock lower scores faster?

While the putter is often the most hated club in the bag, it’s also the one that can unlock lower scores faster than any other. If you’re interested in dropping strokes and winning more bets, put some serious time and thought into finding the best flat stick for your game.

Which is better, a driver or a putter?

With a driver, the one that goes straightest and longest is best. With a putter, some people fit for the putter that you aim the best, others for the putter with the “best roll,” and others measure the stroke to choose the right flat stick.

Do you have to be talking about your eyes when fitting a putter?

You’ll notice that in my putter fitting, there was no talk of where your eyes have to be, what kind of stroke you must make, or “getting the ball rolling sooner.” None of these things will help you make more putts. Here’s why:

Feedback

You are just a little late in looking for your ideal SM bag...…. like a few years late.

Feedback

I have looked for years to find a carry/stand bag with a putter well but have not found one. I did rig my Nike carry bag with a piece of PVC pipe down into a pocket I never used and zipped tied the top of pipe to the handle. I painted it black to blend in with the bag. Worked great.

Feedback

I just switched back to Sun Mountain MPB because I wanted full length dividers and a dedicated putter well. It will be temporary until I a bag with similar features but that is lighter and has a handle on the back spine.

I realize that none of you really care near as much about what is in my bag as much as I do, but right now, I absolutely love all my clubs. I recently replaced my Ben Hogan hybrids that I have played since 2004 with some Titleist 909H.

Stuart81

I wonder if any of the big companies spot this and put it into a new bag sometime soon, I think it is a good idea

skihippy

Awesome DIY, thanks for the info. I got a cleveland cart right now and the putter spot is really starting to annoy me!!!

RoverRick

I was very happy with my clubs. But that was last month. Well, actually in January, if you would have asked me I would have said I was planning on doing some tweaking iron shafts and perhaps some work done to the putter but I was set for the year. Then I won the Callaway driver.

RoverRick

Well, I finally got around to taking a few pictures of the new clubs in the bag.

RoverRick

So more slight modifacations to the game bag. I played an Odyssey White Hot Mid Putter cut down to 33" for years. At the end of last year I switched to an Odyssey White Hot 2 Ball Putter. Then with my back issues, I used the Mid putter as a test bed for a longer putter.

RoverRick

New addition to the bag. I still have MP62's and Razr Fit and Titleist stuff but for my everyday play I have gone with White and Black, actually black and gun blue.
