Why does my Harley backfire through the carb?
A common and continuing problem with Harley engines is air leaks around the junction of the manifold and the cylinder heads. Carburetor/manifold leaks are much less common. An air leak can cause carburetor backfiring. Other symptoms of an air leak include a slow return to idle or an irregular idle.
How should a Harley sound at idle?
"A well-tuned Harley engine, sitting at idle, has a distinct cadence, and it's an uneven, syncopated rhythm," says Steve Piehl, communications director for the Milwaukee-based company. "And it sounds like, `potato, potato, potato. '"
How do I reset my Harley idle?
Reset the TPS. Turn ignition switch on for 10 seconds, then off for 10 seconds (Don't start engine). Repeat a total of 4 times. DO NOT TOUCH throttle while doing it.

How to replace carburetor float?
Remove the carburetor and turn it upside down. Remove the nut that is used to secure the bowl on. Check the float for a puncture as this prevents the activation of the fuel cut-off needle valve. Replace the float if there is a puncture. Check for dirt accumulation in the needle valve.
Why does an EFI carb require more maintenance than an EFI?
The carb requires more maintenance than an EFI because of the cleaning and rebuilding of the carburetor involved.
Why does my carburetor flood on my golf cart?
The reason why a carburetor floods on a golf cart is usually due to a faulty fuel pump. The pump must be repaired or replaced accordingly. Seek professional assistance if required. This is usually due to the proximity of the fuel line to an exhaust manifold, a radiator hose or a heat source.
Where is the main jet on a 2 cycle engine?
The main jet in the carburetor diagram of a 4-cycle engine is located below the carburetor while the pilot jet is present on top of it. The needle valve and float pin are also housed under the carburetor.
How to adjust valve clearance?
Do a valve clearance adjustment starting with the cold valve. The valves can be adjusted using a flat screwdriver, a feeler gauge and a 10mm wrench. The two inner exhaust valves and the outer intake valves must have a clearance of 0.004 mm.
How to remove cable from carburetor?
Remove the cable from the carburetor and cover its sheath opening using duct tape. To do this, make a small funnel with the tape and ensure that the wire sticks out from its middle. Loosen the nut that fixes the cable on to the mount housed on the motor just before its entry into the carburetor.
How to tell if CV carburetor needs tuning?
These signs include a drastic decrease in fuel economy, black smoke appearing from the exhaust, sluggish acceleration, the engine spitting back through the carburetor, or hesitating upon acceleration.
Does Harley Davidson use carburetor?
Harley-Davidson Motor Co. used the constant velocity (CV) carburetor in the 1988 Sportsters, 1990 Big Twins (EVO and TC88) until 2006. Since then, all Harley-Davidson motorcycles make use of fuel injection. The CV carburetor may show signs of needing to be tuned.

What type of electrical system does a Harley Davidson have?
The Harley Davidson gasoline cart has a 12-volt electrical system utilizing a combination starter motor/generator unit built into the engine crankcase, in conjunction with a control switch-box-regulator unit and a storage battery using a negative grounded system.
How does a generator work when engine speed exceeds starter generator speed?
When engine speed exceeds starter generator speed, the shunt field coils (G) are excited and the current generated in the armature is utilized for the ignition system and charging the battery . The generator output is limited by the adjustable resistor or regulator (9), which controls the strength of the magnetic field produced by the shunt field coils (G). The generator voltage increases with engine speed and as soon as the rated level (approximate ly 15 volts) has been reached, charges the battery and increases with engine speed to its maximum value controlled by the voltage regulator. The prescribed charging rate at governed speed is set by means of a variable resistor or is controlled by the voltage regulator.#N#On models equipped with field resistor, a diode acts to bleed off the voltage generated by the operation of the cart when coasting with solenoid contacts open (i.e.accelerator pedal released).
What is the circuit of a starter?
When starting the engine, the heavy field coils (S) are connected in series with the armature to operate as a series motor. This circuit is controlled by the reversing switch (7) and micro-switch (3) which operates a solenoid starter switch (8), controlling the main starter current.
What is the starting coil on a reversing switch?
Starting coil (S) and armature coil ends (Al and A2) (brushes) are connected to the reversing switch (7) which changes the direction of armature current in relation to starting field current through switch contacts to ground. This changes the direction of the magnetic field and armature rotation. The starting coils are always connected through the solenoid switch when the cart is operating but will have no effect when the voltage generated by the field winding is above the battery voltage. At this time the direction of current flow instead of coming from the battery goes to the battery.
How to start a golf cart with a gas pedal?
Locate the gas pedal that is fitted to the governor and remove the connection. Re-route the gas pedal to the carburetor. Remove the bolt present on the shaft of the gas pedal. Slide the shaft upwards so that the gas pedal has more play. Tighten the bolt and start the golf cart.
How to change the speed of a golf cart?
Locate the spring on the differential or carburetor that helps in changing the cart speed by adjusting its tension. Increase the length of the cable that is fitted on to the body of the throttle and clutch of the two-stroke engine.
How to increase the speed of a cart?
Loosen the nut fitted on the cable. This will gradually increase the length of the cable. As the length increases, the speed of the cart will increase accordingly.
How fast is an EZGO golf cart?
The top speed of an EZGO golf cart is usually 19.9mph and the average speed is 14mph to 15mph. With governor adjustment, the EZGO cart can go faster by 5 to 10mph.
What is a golf cart governor?
A golf cart governor is a mechanical device that helps in controlling the maximum speed of the cart when it moves on flat ground. This device prevents the engine RPMs from increasing beyond the recommended specifications.
Which way does a golf cart throttle go?
In some cases, the adjustment can be done by turning the cable nut that connects the cable to the throttle lever in the counter-clockwise direction. This type of governor is often found in 2-cycle golf carts.
How to ride a golf cart at full speed?
Ride the cart at full speed over a course of known length. This will ensure that the governor controls the speed of the cart within factory specifications. Fasten the black plastic cover and put the seat back in place. Take care when tightening the nut. The more you tighten, the faster your cart will go.
