Just wondering what the average time to change a clutch on a mk4 tdi would be. I will be doing it outside with axle stands. Is there anything to look out for? cheers.

Dan W CGTI Regional Host

Not a job i'd be wanting to do on axle stands, it's a pig of a job on a ramp! what's the mileage on? I only ask 'cause if it's high then you might have to do the dual mass flywheel as well, they won't last the length of two clutches in my experience of them.

jettagti Forum Member

Haven't seen the car yet so don't know the mileage. Is it possible to change the DMF with a solid one from any earlier models? I take it the 6-speed is worse due to the bigger box/less room to manouvre?

jettagti Forum Member

Clutch is fitted!!! Surprisingly easy compared to a mk2 considering the weight. Took 2.25 hrs to get the box out, flywheel off and the turbo off cos I changed that aswell. Fitting was slightly more akward as I done the job myself. The hardest bit was probably getting the o/s output flange past the flywheel ring gear.
