how to adjust golf handicap for competition from different tees

A. Since a Course Handicap represents the number of strokes received to play to par, an adjustment is only necessary if players are competing from tees with different pars. When par is different, the player (s) competing from the tees with the higher par simply add the difference in par to their Playing Handicap (s).

So if players compete from different tees a second adjustment needs to be made to equalize their handicaps by adding the difference in the Course Rating to Steve's handicap or subtracting the difference in Course Rating to Bob's handicap. They should both end up with the same Net score if they play to their handicaps.

The game at my club that I usually play in is not handicapped. There can be anywhere from 8 to 16 players on any given Saturday. We're all pretty evenly matched so no need to handicap the game. However, there is a much larger "day" game (can be upwards of 40 in the summer) most Saturdays and Sundays. It's not handicapped either.

The stroke difference between the White Tees and the Gold (Senior) Tees at my club is 4 strokes, so when someone in our Saturday Game turns 65, they can move up. Because I have a formula to average the top 5 scores of their last 10 rounds, I add 4 strokes to each of their last 10 rounds so going forward, the average formula calculates correctly.
