maybe faulty box have you tried a replacement or adjustment,as its probably power steering the set up inside the box is critical somethings wrong

It is very important to take this back and have it looked at by the shop that did the repair. The steering box would come pre-adjusted. I'm afraid they may have left something loose...it happens. Try phoning them, they may even want to tow it or send someone out to check it.

do not grease bushes . Excessive play in the steering is an indication that the end float or clearance in the box/rack needs adjusting. The noise I suspect to be a bearing failing and that would account for the play. Stabiliser bars have nothing to do with steering. They are there to stop body roll going round a corner.

However if it still follows the road contours dips etc I suspect that the alignment has not been done to specs as incorrect t castor and camber will affect the handling. Also the problem may not be in the front but in worn suspension bushes and rear alignment
