Step 1: Designing the Basket
1: Take the care tire and cut off one of the sides. Leave a slight inward lip but remove most of the side tire. Doing this lets the disc room to fly into the basket.#N#2: Take the 2'x4's and drill them onto the wooden pole and both sides. The optimal positioning for the 2'x4's would be slightly above the half way mark on the pole.
Step 2: Attaching the Chains
1: Take the amount of chains you will want to use and attach them evenly around the bike tire with some sort of connector, whether it be you drilling your own holes in the metal or using a chain connector. Once you have all of the chains attached in your desired locations, bring the bike tire to the very top of the wooden pole.
Step 2: Cut Notches Into Fence Post Top
Using a right angle grinder cut 4 notches on the top of the fence post.
Step 3: Drill and Tap Pan Mounting Holes
26 inches down from the top of the fence post (the end with the notches), drill 3 holes 13/64inch diameter equally spaced around the fence post.
Step 6: Drill Drip Pan
In the center of the 26 inch water heater drip pan, drill a hole 2-3/8 inches
Step 7: Draw Pattern and Bend Ring to Match
Draw pattern above onto scrap of paper. Circle should be 22 inches in diameter.
Step 8: Cut and Bend Cross Pieces
Cut second tension bar into three pieces. 1 at 26 inches long and 2 at 16 inches long
Step 9: Drill and Bolt the Cross Pieces to the Ring
When drilling the pieces for middle cross, make sure the holes are 2-1/2 inches from the center / intersection
Step 12: Attach Chain to Ring
Unbolt ring from cross pieces two sections at a time and slide chain lengths onto the ring
How deep should a disc golf basket be?
Your fence post should be 66-inches tall and a disc golf basket is about 55-inches tall. That means you need to dig a hole 11-inches deep. A post hole digger works best for this. Dig the hole a few inches deeper to add some gravel for drainage.
How high should a fence post be for a basket?
Figure out how your finished basket will be mounted (see last step). If it will be in a patio umbrella stand, then cut the fence post to a height of 57-inches using your hack saw. If you will be mounting your basket in the ground, then leave the pole alone.

Once all the eyehooks are secured, use the bolt cutters to cut off some of the extra threaded part of the eyehook inside the PVC coupler.

Hang chains on each of the S-hooks on the grill grate. Crimp the S-hook closed around the chain. Open one of the 3-1/4-inch hinged locking rings, place it around the fence post inside the whiskey barrel liner and begin threading the chains on the ring. When all the chains are in place, close the ring. Now attach S-hooks to each of the eye-hooks on the PVC piece; crimp the S-hooks closed. Hang chain on each of the S-hooks and crimp the S-hooks closed. Thread the inside chains on the remaining hinged locking ring, alternating the inside chains between the outside chains. Close the ring and throw a putt.
How to cut a chain for a chainsaw?
Start cutting the chain. You will need 24 lengths of chain, each 23-inches long. Beg, borrow or steal to get your hands on a good-sized set of bolt cutters. You can get through the links with a hack saw, a Dremel tool or an angle grinder, but the bolt cutters will make the job go so much faster. Once you have all the chains cut, set them aside for later.
