Where does the clutch fluid come from in a GTI MkIV?
The clutch in the GTI MkIV is hydraulic and gets its fluid from the brake reservoir. Just like your brake system the fluid can absorb water over time and affect the performance of the system. Like the brakes you should also bleed the clutch system every two years to keep fresh fluid in it and keep it running as designed.

Just wondering what the average time to change a clutch on a mk4 tdi would be. I will be doing it outside with axle stands. Is there anything to look out for? cheers.

Not a job i'd be wanting to do on axle stands, it's a pig of a job on a ramp! what's the mileage on? I only ask 'cause if it's high then you might have to do the dual mass flywheel as well, they won't last the length of two clutches in my experience of them.

Haven't seen the car yet so don't know the mileage. Is it possible to change the DMF with a solid one from any earlier models? I take it the 6-speed is worse due to the bigger box/less room to manouvre?

Clutch is fitted!!! Surprisingly easy compared to a mk2 considering the weight. Took 2.25 hrs to get the box out, flywheel off and the turbo off cos I changed that aswell. Fitting was slightly more akward as I done the job myself. The hardest bit was probably getting the o/s output flange past the flywheel ring gear.

Serious electrical problems wiv vw golf mk4 gti turbo yr 2000
I had a VW rabbit that developed mad electrical problems. It started when one day the headlights remained on and would not shut off. It turned out that a $2.00 gasket for the antenna wire had failed. This allowed road water from the wheel well to leak onto the fuse box. In time the fuse panel corroded and shorted out.
