I only wear white hats, so I've had to clean a lot of them over the years (including my Aussie hat). The method I have the best luck with is to spray them with some sort of spot cleaner (Shout, Spray and Wash, etc) and let them sit for about an hour. Then scrub with a soft white bristle brush.

I have one of these and a half dozen other brands of wide brim hats in white, blue, camo and other colors (fair skin and burn like bacon in a frying pan so I stay protected). When they need washing, I just throw 'em into the washing machine on gentle cycle, cold water and air dry them. Never had a problem with any of them......
