how is it possible to compress the golf ball??!! I am a five handicap who has got a fundamentally sound swing which is usually quite reliable and produces straight shots. I can hit the nice low wedges and short irons but lack that penetrating ball flight and compression which the pros seem to acheive so effortlessley.

FlyFish

It looks to me like your right shoulder is coming down on too steep of a plane on the backswing (that's usually an effect of something else), and you're chicken winging your left arm slightly to compensate. I'd do some research on Slicefixers 9-3 drill, and practice them. Even better, get an Izzo Swing Strap and a 8" foam ball.

HitEmTrue

I think the word "compression" is misused around here...if you are carrying the 7-iron 157, the ball is compressing on the clubface. I am not saying you don't want forward shaft lean. This is just my unprofessional opinion on compression.
