Ground up some coffee beans and put them in a sock. Hang the sock from one of the dividers and let it sit in there for a few days. My wife and I bought a used car for a steal of a price, but it reeked like smoke. We tried a bowl of vinegar in there for days, and while that helped, still no dice.

I pulled a set of grips using solvent. I've washed the grips with warm water and dish soap but they still stink of solvent a few weeks later.

Depends on local weather. I would always lean clubs against the wall of back porch in the hot summer air for a half hour or so. I did this whether I regripped the clubs, or hired it out.
