when i COULD still hit a 1-iron well i would just tee it about 1/2" above the ground and position it inside my left heel and swing it like my driver.. i used this technique with my VIP jack nicklaus model (compact head) and my Ping Eye2 1-iron (oversized head).. it would carry about 220 yds with a medium ball flight and the roll would depend on the ground conditions.. that was about 30-40 years ago when i had a 3 hdcp....am 68 now with a 9 hdcp (90-95 ss) and that's my driver distance now...
