Extending a golf shaft is a useful technique to have if you are buying used clubs, or if you are experimenting with different club lengths. If you know how to cut a golf shaft or how to extend it, you don’t ever have to worry about purchasing the correct length of clubs on Ebay or other used club marketplaces.
Materials Needed
Extension (You could also use an old golf shaft) Make sure you purchase the right size extension. You need to know the “butt diameter” of the shaft that you are extending, and purchase the extension that matches. Here is a database of shafts.

Step 1
Place the hooked blade under the lip of the grip and cut vertically through the grip, being careful not to scratch the shaft. Grasp the grip at the bottom and pull it off.
Step 2
Peel the grip tape off the shaft by hand. Loosen any remaining tape by heating it with a blow-dryer or a heat gun and then peeling it off.
Step 5
Slide the extender into the hole and rotate it as you push the extender into the shaft to spread the epoxy.
Step 7
Place the shaft in a rubber shaft clamp and secure the clamp in a vise.
Do putters need ferrules?
Putters do not need ferrules. Drill Driver and Small Drill Bit (for removing old epoxy inside the shaft) Epoxy Board (or some smooth surface to mix the epoxy on) Something to mix the epoxy with (end of a paintbrush, nail, screwdriver) Coarse Sand Paper (80 Grit works fine)
