OP I was just like you about 8 years ago. Rolled the club open and inside with a flat backswing. Same misses as you. When I was on and my timing was good, I struck it very well. But when I was off.....well, you know what its like.

I am right in the midst of this practice. Feels weird as hell. But it sure does (finally!) get my shaft on plane. I am totally disoriented by the move but that is fine. I KNOW this is the right way to go. But it will take time to get imbedded.
