What's the difference between an 8v and a 16V?
The insurance difference between the two was shocking, the 8V seemed very reasonable, the 16V, despite not having a huge power difference on paper, was nearly £1000 a year more! I suppose being the more desirable and sportier model, there have probably been more smashed up and stolen 16Vs over the years. In budget and worth a look?
Is the 16V a good car?
The standard 16v is a great car and loves to rev. Keeps up with traffic too. I'm currently making a few enhancements to mine. PM me if you have any questions.
Can I put a 16V motor on an 8V motor?
If you simply fit it stock to a 8v motor you drop the CR to around 8.5:1 hence there will be very little gain. To actually get to the same a a genuine 16v you have to use the right pistons to get your CR to 10:1 if you don't do that your gains will be very little.
Can I use 8V Pistons in a 16V engine?
To actually get to the same a a genuine 16v you have to use the right pistons to get your CR to 10:1 if you don't do that your gains will be very little. If you use the 8v pistons then you are gearing up for turbo and they make MUCH more power. Ok cool so the pistons must be replaced for the 16v head to work properly.

What is the difference between 8V and 16v engine?
Well 8 valves (8v) basically means a 4-cyl engine with 2 valves/cyl (one for intake and one for exhaust). 16 valves (16v) means 4 valves/cyl (two each for intake and exhaust). The 16v engine is better in terms of performance as it has an easier time taking in air and pushing out exhaust (i.e, breathing).
What kind of engine does a Volkswagen Golf have?

Is 16v faster than 8V?
8V = better low end torque, smoother and more power at low rev, higher fuel consumption, higher emission.... 16V = better high end torque, high reving, lower fuel consumption, lower emission... what do you think guys? which type of engine is more suitable to your needs?...
Which Volkswagen Golf engine is the best?
The best of the Golf's petrol engines is the 1.5-litre TSI, delivering a fine blend of power and economy. It's genuinely impressive, with a keenness to rev that helps it to feel livelier than its fuel economy would suggest.

I wouldn't say the 16v is thirstier than an 8v as it's a more efficent engine, more down to how it's driven, my tuned 8v has terrible mpg .

I had an 8v mk1 golf and did a 16v conversion and ther's a huge difference in performance!!

Having gone from a Mk1 1600 GTI, to a 90spec 8v GTI, to a Corrado 2.0 16v, the fuel consumption of the Mk2 8v was a little better then the Corrado 2.0 16v which incidently is a heavier car, but I really did not notice any real change in fuel costs, and the mpg on the MFA shows similar on both.

Personaly I'd go for the 16v if you have any intention of increasing it's performance. If you do want to tune it, you may as well buy the quicker car to start with.

As said above, it really does depend on how you drive a car. Im convinced the 8v is a lazy daily hack with a bit of grunt, wheres the 16v is the defined sports hatch of the two.
