How do I unlock my Volkswagen without the key?
With your key in your pocket, purse or bag, place your hand behind the door handle. Allow your hand to rest there for just a brief moment to allow the vehicle to detect that your hand is there. Now, go ahead and open the door, which should be unlocked automatically. Locking your Volkswagen without having to use the key is just as easy.

Does the anti-theft alarm work with a spare key?
Ours states “The anti-theft alarm is not activated when the vehicle is manually locked using the spare key”. This is horseradish of the highest order. Well, significant extra knowledge is required, anyway. Read on. Locate your spare key. For our Passat, it’s a plastic key “concealed” within the normal remote-control type vehicle key.

Hi my last few cars have always locked themselves around say 5 minutes after getting out of the car with the key out of the ignition. This R of mine doesn't do that. I've left it on the drive for 30 minutes but it doesn't lock itself. I wonder is this normal or am I missing something.

The autolock feature should be in the car menu. On the mk7 it’s as follows:

I think they mean that if the car & key aren’t in proximity after a set period of time parked up, the car should lock.

I’ve noticed my mk7.5 auto locks after a few minutes if you unlock it but don’t get in.

Maybe it’s a positive move to prevent keys getting locked in the car. The car should be capable of sending the keys are in the ignition or even just in the car. Cost saving no doubt! They def lock if you unlock but don’t open door as it annoyed me other day when I was cleaning my glass, and had put keys back in a secure pocket.

Currently many new cars come with KESSY as standard, is there any way on a Golf R to effectively turn it off and revert to normal key based entry and start.

The easiest procedure to disable keyless entry is to simply lock the car using the key fob and then hold your thumb over the indent on the door handle. This disables keyless entry until you start the car up again.

I was just trying it on my Dad's GTI the other week when I washed it and couldn't get it to work.. Haven't got it on mine so not an issue. He's got a disklock and its garaged so not too much of an issue.
