What is vertiginous golf?

Vertiginous Golf is a dystopian steam punk mini golf adventure game set in the skies above an alternate world where life on the ground is enveloped in permanent smog, constant darkness and never-ending rain.

What does it mean when you get stuck in golf?

Getting stuck begins with an incorrect takeaway. "Getting stuck" is a problem many golfers face from time to time. It means that as the club head nears the ball at the bottom of the downswing, it and the hands are so far behind the player that they can't strike the ball properly.

How do you start the backswing in golf?

Start your backswing by rotating your shoulders, also called “coiling your upper body.” Your arms should remain fairly straight as you swing the club away from the ball, even though they are relaxed. Many players fold their left arm across their chest, but that's not necessary to maintain the connected position you had at setup.

What makes it easy to rotate the lower body in golf?

What makes it easy to rotate the lower body is allowing the left heel to come off the ground to finish the backswing. As fellow Top 100 Teacher Kevin Sprecher has touched on previously, lifting your left heel allows your torso to rotate a great deal more during the backswing.

Locked-On Golf

There’s a really funny thing about striking a golf ball that you may have noticed – and it’s frustrating as hell.

But Why?

If you owned a golfing robot and it hit a shank, just moving it a bit farther from the ball and setting it up out of the toe would work – guaranteed.

Locked On

This location in space is like a set of coordinates – and our brain will act like a heat-seeking missile and seek out those coordinates, regardless of where we start.

Perceptual Trick

Perception is fluid – it can change from one day to the next. This is why you can have one bad day, but a week later it figures itself out.

Re-Setting The Perception

When you have a poor strike pattern, your perception is effectively skewed.

Quick Fix?

Those golfers who know a lot (but don’t know enough), they will often put this in the “quick fix” category. You could not be more wrong.

How to swing a sandbox?

Step 1. Take your normal setup, making sure that your arms are relaxed and hanging down comfortably. Many players worry about remaining “connected” during the swing, but your upper arms should rest lightly against the sides of your chest at setup. This is all that is necessary.

Why do I turn my hips to the left?

Because your shoulders are turned more than your hips, your lower body will still lead the swing, but by trying to start them together, you will turn your hips to the left rather than sliding forward too much. This will prevent you from leaning backward and actually make it possible for you to unwind faster.

Why does the shot go right?

The shot (for right-handers) typically goes right because the face off the club is open, resulting in a push-slice. Some players manage to flip their wrists at contact, resulting in a big hook. Getting stuck can be prevented by eliminating a couple of excess movements in your swing.

Should your arms be straight when swinging a golf club?

Your arms should remain fairly straight as you swing the club away from the ball, even though they are relaxed. Many players fold their left arm across their chest, but that's not necessary to maintain the connected position you had at setup.

Locked on

  • This location in space is like a set of coordinates – and our brain will act like a heat-seeking missile and seek out those coordinates, regardless of where we start. Unfortunately, for amateur golfers, these coordinates are not always the right ones. That’s why you can have those days where you just can’t fixthat shank/toe/fat/thin shot. In fact, a lot of the things that amateurs try t…

Perceptual Trick

  • Perception is fluid – it can change from one day to the next. This is why you can have one bad day, but a week later it figures itself out. However, that doesn’t help much when you have a case of the shanks (or fats or toes or thins) and need tofix it immediately. If there’s one thing I’ve learned as a coach it’s that you can’t just use a mechanical fix(otherwise standing half an inch fa…

Re-Setting The Perception

  • When you have a poor strike pattern, your perception is effectively skewed. You might be telling your brain to send the sweet spot to the right place, but the coordinates are off. You have to give your brain new coordinates. How on earth do we do this? Pretty simple actually. If I got 100 golfers and asked them all to try to send the sweet spot to ...

Quick fix?

  • Those golfers who know a lot (but don’t know enough), they will often put this in the “quick fix” category. You could not be more wrong. Let me tell you something; 1. If you master the ability to do this, you can instantly change any strike issuethat comes your way. 2. If you master the ability to do this, it will last a lifetime 3. This ability can very easily transfer to the golf course 4. The abil…

Improving More

  • I approach learning golf from a broad perspective. I understand swing mechanics, but I also understand perception, motor learning, coordination and skill-development. As a result, my information is like nothing you have seen before. I can take the seemingly complex and take it simple and actionable for golfers. I do it every day. I get golfers who have been struggling with …
