Here are my steps to placing your glove hand correctly on the grip: I start with a new golf glove and a red sharpie. I put a red dot on the second knuckle of the glove hand. Then I put a red dot on the palm side of the glove: Right in the middle of the fleshy part of the palm pad.

At a recent tournament I was at the group in frint of us had this same issue. We all thought it was illegal. However, an official ruled it legal. I also cannot find it anywhere in the rules to be illegal, but until I hear otherwise I am going to consider it illegal. I don't mark my gloves.
