Applications

VW used quite a number of ignition systems on their water cooled engines. This article covers the Hall effect distributor with four teeth, used on most of the ’80s era inline 8V and 16V motors. Later VWs used a 60-2 crank trigger to drive a distributor, or later, distributorless ignition systems.

Using the MegaSquirt-I (MSnS-E) with the Bosch ignition module

Since there is no need for a VR conditioner or onboard coil driver, this one can use the V2.2, V3.0, or V3.57 board.

Using the MegaSquirt-II PCBv3 with the Bosch 139 ignition module

Build the Hall effect input conditioner circuit, as described in MSExtra’s MS2 Manual. All our preassembled MegaSquirts with the V3.0 board come with this circuit installed.

but this engine have a distribuitor with 4 vanes and a hall sensor, i thing the called 80s vw distribuitor.

Re: Vw golf mk3 2000 8v engine 2E

Its a hall sensor and you need ignition mode set to basic trigger. Trigger angle is ~60deg but double check with a timing light.

If you see timing drift likely the output is set wrong. What coil setup are you using?

Eddie, can you also add to the `Building the device` section, how to build the kit for use with the EDIS coilpack instead of the dizzy please?

Megasquirt Wiring

Use the CAN High and Low connections from either CAN1 or CAN2. Typically CAN1 is used, so you would use CAN 1 High' and CAN 1 Low .

Enable Megasquirt CAN broadcast

In TunerStudio, enable CAN mode and burn it to the controller. Once this is done, RaceCapture/Pro will be receiving CAN bus data from the Megasquirt.

Megasquirt Preset

Once wiring and connections are complete, select the Megasquirt preset under Setup / CAN Channels, and then write the changes to your RaceCapture system.

Verifying

Once connected and with the preset loaded, navigate to the Dashboard screen in the RaceCapture app to verify data connectivity.
