Picked up a set of Wilson Staff FG-17s this weekend which are in quite nice shape. Although there is a little oxidation on the finish, I know if I can get a good polish on these, they will look spectacular. However, trolling through the forums on WRX, I have found a huge number of different ways recommended for polishing up the chrome:

Sorry, I'm not currently located where the clubs are. I can say the chrome is intact, no rust, and most of the damage looks "bag-chattery". Not really looking for display clubs - just want them to look sharp if I take them out to game them.

Thanks jaskanski. I'm thinking more to my auto detailing days, when for a dulled chrome surface (i.e. on a bumper), I'd normally hit it with some Turtle Wax Polishing compound via rotary buffer, followed by a good quality paste wax.

I agree with Jaskanski. But whatever you do, never put a Dremel tool within 10 feet of a golf club. After having collected something like 80 sets of classic blades, I would advise just removing any rust with Naval Jelly, coke, CLR or whatever, then waxing. And congrats for snagging those FG17s. Great clubs and great looking, dings and all.

Thanks honketyhank, I do have to admit that I have used the Dremel before, but it was to take the patina off of my Ping Pal when I first got it after Coke'ing it (I wanted to put my own patina on it).

Rubbing down the heads with Turtle Wax Chrome Cleaner will brighten them up some. It won't remove the chrome or damage the finish in any way. There is only so much you can do so don't expect miracles. The chrome cleaner has polish in it, but not enough to dull down the chrome. I'd stay away from buffing wheels or harsh abrasives.

Thanks guys, did give them the soap and water last night and they look pretty good. Did pick up some Mother's Chrome Polish yesterday as I needed it for my boat. Maybe I'll try the 8 iron as an experiment as it was the worst worn of the lot. Did try a few holes with them yesterday, and didn't find them impossible to hit.
