HOW-TO: Regripping with Air Compressor

  • Cut off old grips
  • Use a heat gun to heat the grip tape (makes peeling off much easier)
  • Place one layer of regular masking tape on the club. I tried not using any tape but had slippage on a few clubs.
  • Set my air compressor to 45 PSI
  • Put some spit on the inside of the end of the grip and maneuvered it on the club about 1/4", lining it up
  • Put the end of the pistol grip nozzle in the hole at the top of the grip and used quick bursts of air to glide it into place.
  • Adjusted using short bursts to fine tune the alignment

Step 1

The first thing that you are going to have to do is to remove the old grip from the clubs. You will need the utility knife to get this done. Removing the old grips are going to need a decent amount of force. This is a rather dangerous part of the procedure so you should be very careful.

Take the one sided masking tape and use it to build up a grip. You should keep wrapping until you have reach a level where your grip can easily fit. Take care to block the hole on the top of the shaft with a great deal of tape. To make the next step a little easier, you should consider placing the end of the shaft in some solvent.

Step 3

The output regulator for this activity should be set to 50 psi. You should now attach your grip tool to your air compressor. Slip the tip of the grip onto the shaft and then slowly begin to push it forward. As you are doing this, turn on the air compressor. It is important to begin pushing the grip forward before turning the air compressor on.

Whether or not a grip will slip will depend on both the grip type and the grip core and shaft diameter.
