I've just ordered new rear discs and pads for the R, and just want help with the electric handbrake.

Yes I’ve done this. OBD will wind the motors all the way back (10 credits) When finishing, apply the brakes via the brake pedal a few times to push the pads into place and then reset the parking brake motors with OBD again (another 10 credits). If you don’t seat the pads by using the brake pedal you’ll end up with EPB fault (speaking from experience).

New 2019 Golf R with DSG. Love it! Question: Does anyone know if the auto-hold and parking brake actually work on the brakes or is it a transmission lock? I noticed when I put it in drive with auto-hold and got out of the car, the rear brake lamps were not on. This lead me to the question...

I'm pretty sure the auto hold uses the brakes. I've seen at night that the brake lights remain on when I am in autohold. I use it all the time apart from tight manoeuvring when it becomes a PITA. Don't know about the handbrake but am hoping it's a conventional one.

Cogito

Auto Hold is an extended feature of the electronic parking brake. Maintains last applied brake pressure to the wheels until driver presses the accelerator pedal and releases the clutch on a manual-equipped R. Works in both DSG and manual cars and is not a transmission lock.

Yes, a public one, as our home owners association doesn't allow car washing in the street or driveways. The car wash I go to is a no-touch one though and I've applied several coats of Torque Detail's Mirror Shine which helps protect the paint. Gotta do what I gotta do to keep my baby clean!!
