Do you have to remove old grip tape?
Step 1
Place the club in a vise with a rubber insert to avoid damaging the shaft.
Step 2
Put a sleeve around the shaft. You can use the plastic sleeve that sometimes comes in a golf bag to help organize your clubs, or the cardboard insert from a roll of paper towels. Leave about 2 inches of space between the top end of the sleeve and the butt end of the grip.
Step 5
Pull the air compressor’s trigger, while simultaneously twisting the grip forward and back on the shaft. The grip will begin to loosen as the air from the compressor fills the inside of the shaft and forces the grip to expand.
Air Compression
Attach an air compression machine to your club by inserting a thin air compressor nozzle into the small hole in the cap of your golf club grip. This process will essentially blast the grips off of your golf clubs using air, leaving them intact at the end.
Grip Removers
Obtain a grip remover with a spring-rod. Many golf gear manufacturers carry them to aid in removing old grips from clubs. You will also need an adhesive-removing solvent, such as paint thinner or acetone. For ease of application, put the solvent in a squeeze bottle.
Solvent Pump
Fill a canister with acetone or another adhesive-dissolving solvent. Insert the needle of the canister into the space between the metal of the club and the grip.

I have an air compressor and will be ordering the adapter soon. Does the air method work as well with non-pure grips?

Wow I can't believe how easy it was to use the air compressor. Using air will make it easier to experience with different grip sizes. Really excited as I'm ordering some AP2's and Titleist never builds the grips to my liking.
