The under body trays on most modern cars are used not only to protect the systems from road debris and weather but to also manage the air flow under and around the vehicle

The GTI is no exception even though it does not have as many trays as some vehicles. You will need to remove these trays to get access to most of the work you will want to perform on the cooling systems of the car along with a host of other projects.

Figure 1 This photo illustrates the under body trays on a GTI MkV. There are two floor trays (red arrows), two lower front wheel liners (green arrows) and a front engine tray (yellow arrow). There is also an access port in each of the side trays (Blue arrows).

The interior trim panels cover the interior body pillars and other sections of the vehicle

They provide additional noise and safety protection as well as dress up the interior of the car. The A-pillar refers to the metal body part that runs between the hood up to the roof. It supports the windshield. The B-pillar is located between the driver and passenger door. (Note: not all cars have B pillars).
